Anikauk

21:00 | Anika (Invada/Stones Throw) is a project fronted by an alluring chanteuse (Annika Henderson) singing in dreamlike, deadpan tones proudly wrapped up in analogue effects, echo and atmospheres. Live the tracks created have that warm/cool and retro/futuristic magic that creates strange sensations and thrills. The music and atmosphere is full with elemental influences from of punk, dub and 60s girl groups. It is a killer set consisting mostly of very carefully-chosen covers – it's all about the versions, and these include magnetic renderings of recognisable gems; Dylan's "Masters Of War" is time-stretched and echoed-out into infinity, Yoko Ono's "Yang Yang (the first single) gets stripped lean and given a fuzzy languor, and The Kinks' "I Go To Sleep" is reborn as a dark, radioactive torch song.
Anika, the self-titled debut album, was done/dusted within a fortnight. No surprise that the album was produced by BEAK>, the band featuring Portishead's Geoff Barrow, Bristol polymath Matt Loveridge and Billy Fuller from Fuzz Against Junk, who possessed the Bristol musical pedigree to texture it all up and carve out something special.

U.S. Girlsusa

20:20 | Megan Remy is a chanteuse from (perhaps) the future, guiding all who choose to sail an evocative trip through her unique aural hallucinogenic landscapes. It's a journey of lush vistas, warm currents, and complex beauties. 23nd-Century-style, of course. So come aboard and see why U.S. Girls is being hailed the Eno of the '50s--the 2250s! Can you imagine? Let's hope so!
